Chesterfield Farm Excursion
Here are some great photos from the Chesterfield Farm Excursion that the grade ones went to last week. It was a fantastic day out and the students had a ball meeting all of the animals and finding out even more about our inquiry topic.
Also here is a video about what 1E got up to on the day!

What’s been happening in Grade One?
Wow, what a start to term 3! We have had a very exciting first few weeks. The 1E Optimistic Owls and the 1F Funny Bunnies celebrated 100 days of school with some fun activities all about the number 100!
Then both grades had a great time learning about subtraction using Fruit Loops!
Check out Serena in action:

We also had a visit from St John’s Ambulance Service to teach all grade ones about first aid. We got to role play calling 000 for an ambulance and even got bandaged up!
But it’s ok, we were just pretending!
On Thursday and Friday all of the Grade 1 grades worked as a team to get our veggie patch ready for planting. Here is a video of 1E and 1F in action weeding and turning the earth:

Cartoons in the past
Today 1E were watching some old Disney Cartoons during eating time. One student asked “Why does it look so flicky?” which led to a great conversation about how cartoons were made in the past.
Here is a video of Mickey from 1929!
We then did a Google Search to find out how the animations were made:

What’s new in Grade One!
We have had a great start to Term 2! We have had so many exciting and special activities already this term and it is only week 4! We started the term off with a Grade One Assembly where we got to watch another Grade 1 Broadcast.

We also had a very special Whole School Assembly for ANZAC day. The Grade One teachers are all VERY proud of the respect and maturity all of the Grade Ones showed during this assembly, well done!
A few weeks ago students came to school looking REALLY strange!! At first I thought it must have been very windy with glitter showers but it turns out it was just CRAZY HAIR DAY! Here are some great shots of t=some fabulous do’s in 1E:
We raised lots of money for the Leukaemia Foundation and even got to watch some of the teachers shave their heads!
This term we have also been swimming every Monday and Wednesday! Stay tuned for some great photos of our amazing swimmers next week!
Earlier this week we were very lucky to have 2 extra special visitors to our classrooms. Miss Shannon’s Mum, Jane, and grandmother Granny Margaret visited all of the grade ones to talk about the “Olden Days”. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to learn about what family life was like a long time ago and answer their questions about life and growing up in the past. We found out that some things stayed the same, like trading cards, skipping and playing outside but there were also many things that were different too. There was no colour TV, no mobile phones or X-Boxs and Granny Margaret’s house didn’t even have a toilet inside the house! Below are some photos from the presentation as well as the slideshow you can share with your family.
